With the support of Reinhold Brunner, basset horn, and Milan Turkovic, bassoon, on this CD with works by W. A. Mozart the clarinet duo of Petra Stump/Heinz-Peter Linshalm, highly praised for their performances of contemporary compositions (including numerous commissioned works), present a programme from the heyday of the basset horn. The beginning is provided by a comprehensive cross-section through Die Zauberflöte, KV 620, the successful arrangements of which for basset horn probably did not derive from Mozart’s own pen despite his well-known predilection for the instrument, but from contemporaries and also originate from recent years, including the one by Heinz-Peter Linshalm. The same applies to the Divertimento Le nozze di Figaro for 3 basset horns and bassoon KV 492, for which famous arias from the opera of the same name form the basis. By contrast, the Divertimento No. 3 KV 439b (KV Annex 229) and the Adagio in F major KV 410 undoubtedly constitute original works by Mozart for 2 basset horns and bassoon.
